One of the things I appreciate about photography is that the learning never stops-we learn about the world around us and we learn about ourselves.

And the learning never stops because we've always got questions, regardless of where we are in our evolution as photographers.
 

Our curiosity keeps us engaged in making photographs, and the viewers' curiosity keeps them engaged in our work.
 

Before deciding what aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to use, we need to ask ourselves what do we wanna communicate through our picture?
 

Once we answer that question, we begin to get the answers for what aperture, shutter speed, and ISO we need to create the picture that communicates what we want.
 

When it comes to aperture, do we want a shallow or a deep depth of field?

When it comes to shutter speed, do we want to record something moving so that it appears in our photograph as static, frozen, not moving, or with some amount of blur?
 

When it comes to ISO, how much noise (digital) or grain (film) are we willing to tolerate?
 

When someone views our picture, they’ll probably have many questions about what the picture means and why we composed it the way we did.

This is why we should know the answer to those questions

Photography is a craft of questions and answers.

As the creators of the photograph, we’ve gotta know both the questions and the answers.

A note about group class sizes: Did you know that some places that teach photography have up to 25 students in each class? 

Bigger ain't always better.

That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
