Here’s a scenario we’re all familiar with.
 

Something has our attention because we think we can make a picture with it.
 

But we’re looking at it and looking at it and can’t figure out how to make the picture.

When we get stuck like that, we’ve got two choices: don’t make the picture and move on, or challenge ourselves to make the picture anyway

What’s it hurt to be up for a challenge?

Making pictures isn’t about being a brilliant photographer; the point is to make pictures, and the point of making excellent pictures is making pictures that communicate something.

When we don’t know what to do, we should just do.

In other words, just make pictures because that’s what photographers do.
 

Even though it’s frustrating when we can’t figure out what to do, the antidote to the frustration of not knowing what to do is in the doing.

When we do, the frustration ends and the learning begins.
 

Remember, none of us know what we’re doing all the time.

The difference between a photographer who improves and remains stuck is that the photographer who improves makes the picture anyway.

We’ve got to let our curiosity lead the way and not let the frustrating feeling of being stuck get in our way.

Bigger ain't always better.

That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
