When I talk with photographers who want to be better photographers, a lot of them want to understand how their camera works so they can make better pictures.
 

In other words, they want to learn about camera operation and its relation to composition.

But that’s only part of it; we’ve also gotta learn about light because light is what we photograph.

Light is fleeting and constantly changing.

Of course, we all want to be better photographers, but there’s a reason many of us want to hone our skills and understand photography that we might not realize at first.

Studying and practicing our photography is really about what happens when we’re not studying and practicing our photography.
 

A big part of why we study and practice is to draw on the skills and understanding we acquire while learn, so we can apply them when we get the impulse to photograph something we see.
 

Learning photography is about honing our understanding and skills so we’re prepared to make photographs even when we’re not looking to make photographs.

It’s about recording that unexpected moment in a photograph-that once-in-a-lifetime event that will never happen again.
 

It’s about photographing the moments containing the people, places, and things we feel are meaningful.

And all of it is fleeting and constantly changing light.

That’s why we study and practice our photography.

If you can’t make any of those schedules, Private Lessons would be the way to go.

If none of my in-person ways of learning work for you, then you can study and practice at your own pace and on your own schedule by gaining access to the Introduction to Photography video tutorials on my Online Learning Platform for Photographers.

It’s the next best thing to taking an in-person class with me; you could even ask me questions, and members get exclusive access to all the other member-only educational content created to help you be the best photographer you can be.

Bigger ain't always better.

That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
