Sometimes, when I talk with photographers looking to be better and ask them why they wanna be better photographers, some say that photography feels like a shot in the dark.

In other words, they're making pictures without understanding what they’re doing.

Sometimes, they get an image that’s OK, but most of the time, they’re not happy with the work.

Yeah, there's no doubt about it; It’s frustrating when we don’t know what we’re doing.

When we know what we’re doing, that phrase “a shot in the dark” takes on a new meaning.

When we know what we’re doing as photographers and understand Photography, we realize that the phrase “a shot in the dark” could also mean that we’re working with low-light intensity.

In terms of camera operation, we’ll be working with high ISOs, wide apertures, or slow shutter speeds, and depending on how dark it is, maybe all of the previously mentioned.

When it comes to composition, we also know how those high ISOs, wide apertures, and slow shutter speeds affect noise, depth of field, and blur.

When we understand photography and know what we’re doing as photographers, our photography is no longer a shot in the dark; instead, we know how to make a photograph in low light intensity.
