Of course, we got light—the sun, a lightbulb, a flame—but do we “get” light?

As soon as we start making photographs, we deal with light.
 

In the beginning, we’re caught up in camera operation and composition, but we usually don’t realize that light is our raw material, and we have to learn about that, too.
 

So, of course, were always working with light, but do we understand light?

To be the best photographers we can be, we’ve gotta learn about light, camera operation, and composition.

Light has characteristics, and when we learn to observe and describe light, we can relate it to camera operation and composition, assuming we understand how camera operation affects composition.

This is why it’s essential to first take care of camera operation and composition.

When we begin to observe and describe light’s characteristics, it helps us because it drives what we do in terms of camera operation and composition.

In every one of my classes, we’re always dealing with light.

So whether you take one of the classes with me listed below or join my online learning platform for photographers, also listed below, you’ll get to know light.

Bigger ain't always better.

That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
