When we’re struggling to make photographs that stand out, or it feels like we need to buy more gear to get better results, It might be that we skipped the important parts.
Some photographers spend more time worrying about finding their style or which camera to buy than learning what it takes to make photographs
that’re meaningful to them.
But photography ain’tabout finding our style (we already have our “style”) or having the latest equipment.
Photography’s about making pictures that matter to us.
If we’re having a hard time making photographs we’re happy with, it’s worth taking a look at our intent.
Part of our intent should be considering who we’re making pictures for, what we want our work to communicate, and the impact we hope our photography will
have
After we make a picture and critique our work, we’ve gotta decide whether this picture is truly the best we could do, or whether we could've done better.
If we could’ve done better, the mistakes we make show us where we
need to direct our studies and practice.
The truth is, viewers don’t care how hard we try or what camera we use.
They care about what our pictures communicate and how it affects them.
So if we wanna be better photographers, we’ve gotta pay attention to the essential things like our studies and practice, and observing the light we’re
working with, keeping in mind our intentional composition, and operating our camera in a way that effectively communicates what we want to express through our intentionally created photograph.
If you’re struggling with any of that, I’m here to help you.
A good way to start is to use these free self-evaluations and leave your information so I can offer you some guidance.
I also suggest studying and practicing with me during my Photography Basics/Introduction to Photographybecause it’s designed to help participants intentionally create pictures that matter to them.
There’s one starting on January 4, or you could do it as a series of Private Lessons.
There’s more ways to learn photography with me listed below, and if you want to give or get a gift certificate, nothing beats my Instant Gift Certificates.
