If you ever study and practice Photography with me, we’ll discuss stops a lot.
I’m not just talking about F-stops, which I call aperture.
I’m talking about stops of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, tonality, light intensity, and exposure; the term stop applies to almost everything we talk about.
In short, a stop is an increment that doubles or halves.
When we begin thinking about what we do in terms of stops and apply that to camera operation composition and light, it enables us to be more efficient and effective photographers.
For
example, if I asked you to increase your shutter speed by two stops, how would that affect your composition?
Or if we’re at an aperture of F 11 and we decrease exposure by two stops, what’s our new aperture number, and how does it affect the tonality of our picture and depth of field?
Understanding stops helps us visualize our picture before we create it and helps us understand why our pictures look the way they look after we’ve made them.
Understanding and
thinking about stops is an indispensable part of our thought process and is foundational for becoming better photographers.
There's a Photography Basics (Introduction To Photography) class starting on Sunday, June 1; you can also take this class as a series of Private Lessons.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
-------
The Photography Basics (Introduction To Photography) group classes starts soon or you can learn the same stuff as a series of Private Lessons.

A note about group class sizes: Did you know that some places that teach photography have up to 25 students in each class?
Bigger ain't always better.
That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up
quicker, so sign up soon.
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
Currently scheduled classes are below.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
