Photographs aren't inherently good or bad; we just think they are.
When we see a photograph and simply label it as good or bad, this is a low-level critique of the picture.
And a low-level critique ain't a helpful critique.
We don't have to like a composition to acknowledge and appreciate
that we're seeing a photograph.
And even if we like a composition, it's still a photograph.
Remember, a good critique of a photograph is a deconstruction of it in terms of its elements of composition.
Regardless of whether we think of a photograph as good or bad, which is a low-level critique, we'll find the answer to why we feel the way we do in the elements of composition.
When we begin to examine why we feel the way we
do about a picture by identifying the elements of composition and describing how effectively we think the photographer used them, then we have a better understanding of photography and can then reasonably and logically support our initial "good or bad" judgment.
When we critique photographs in this way, we become better photographers because if we can deconstruct the composition of a picture based on its elements, we can construct (compose) a picture using the elements of composition.
The only thing we've gotta know how to do is operate our camera effectively to compose our picture.
And that's where I can help you.

A
note about group class sizes: Did you know that some places that teach photography have up to 25 students in each class?
Bigger ain't always better.
That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
