And for what it's worth, when you send me an email unless someone's lookin' over my shoulder, I'm the only one who sees it.

Before we press the shutter release and make an exposure to create a photograph, we should pause and ask why.
 

Without this pause, we miss a big part of making our picture.
 

We can think of our pause to ask why as a driving intent because it drives the intent of our composition.

And the intention of our composition drives our camera operation.
 

The exposure mode we use matters when it comes to camera operation.

In automatic exposure mode, our camera operation is limited to framing and content, and when we press the shutter release to make the exposure.
 

Furthermore, automatic exposure mode limits our expression through photography.

On the other hand, in fully manual exposure mode, where we meter and focus and pick our exposure and ISO settings in every other setting we could think of, we have a much deeper visual vocabulary.

In other words, the possibilities of our expression are nearly unlimited

But again, regardless of the exposure mode we use, if we pause and ask why we’re taking the time we need to discover what we wanna say through the photograph we create.
 

And sometimes what we have to say is the most important thing someone hasn’t heard.

But also remember, the pause we take to identify the reason for making a photograph drives everything we do in terms of camera operation.

Our picture is created in our mind before we make it in the camera.
 

If we want the intentional picture we imagine in our minds to be as close as possible to the picture in our camera, it helps to understand the relationship between camera operation, composition, and light.

While creating our picture, we should also pause to deliberate over our choices of the elements of our composition.
