And for what it's worth, when you send me an email unless someone's lookin' over my shoulder, I'm the only one who sees it.

Whether the source of light is transmitting/illuminating or reflective, light doesn’t care if we can observe, describe, and understand its characteristics.

Unless we’re working in a controlled situation like a studio, light appears and changes from moment to moment, regardless of our ability to understand it.

When it comes to our photography studies and practice, we can see this as an opportunity or a source of frustration, misunderstanding, and confusion.

It’s up to us.

We can remain in the dark about light or accept that light is the raw material photographers work with.

It’s in our best interest to learn to observe, describe, and understand the characteristics of the raw material we’re working with.

When we do that and relate it to intentional composition and camera operation, based not on what we see but how we think about what we see, our photography is as unique as we are.

Light doesn’t care, but we should care about the light.

We should care about our photography and make the best pictures we can, considering the characteristics of the light we’re working with.

A note about group class sizes: Did you know that some places that teach photography have up to 25 students in each class? 

Bigger ain't always better.

That's why I limit my group classes to no more than five participants because smaller classes make for better, more effective, and more efficient learning experiences.

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
