Rarely will we hear someone admit, "I don't want to learn to be better."
For example, we won't say:
I don't want to learn nutrition, even though it'll dramatically improve my health.
I don't want to learn statistics and probability because it'll help me become a better decision-maker.
I don't want to learn creative methodologies, even though they'll help me see things differently and get me unstuck.
I don't want to learn about camera operation, even though it will help me understand how my camera works.
I don't want to learn how to use composition elements because they'll help me make thoughtful and intentional photographs.
I don't want to observe and describe light because understanding its characteristics is foundational to what
photographers need to know.
Finding a competent teacher with whom we resonate and who covers what we want to learn can teach us all of this and much more.
We can easily do that by a web search or word of mouth.
But we put it off because:
- It takes effort to learn
- Once we learn something, we may decide it wasn't worth learning
- Learning shifts our minds and how we see the world, and change like that can unsettle us
- Changing feels risky
We want to learn a lot of stuff, but if we're honest with ourselves, we don't care enough to do the work.
The hardest part of learning as an adult is deciding to learn.

Currently
scheduled classes are below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
And what if the
timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
