Hello, .
I hope you’re enjoying the holidays and making plenty of pictures.
Around 1864, the first photographic process, called heliography, was invented by Joseph Nicéphore
NiépceIn
The process was done by using a camera obscura and a natural tar that hardens in light, called bitumen of Judea, to capture images on a silver plate
The first photograph Niépce made was of the view from his workroom in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France, and required at least eight hours of exposure time.
Photography has come a
long way since it was invented, and many people have discovered it, and they’ve become photographers
Remember, we're discoverers not inventors.
Michelangelo described his process as removing all the parts of the marble that
weren’t the statue while sculpting his art.
That’s what discovery’s like.
Except what we discover is
what to exclude from our framing and content when creating a picture.
Often, we try to discover new things to photograph when it might be easier and more straightforward to find a new way of seeing what we're already familiar with instead.
In other words, when we can see the same things in a new way, it’s easy to discover new photographs to be made.
