Have you heard of the "Learning Photography Laws of Motion?"
Of course, you haven't because I just made 'em up.
I made 'em up because I wanted to use the creative (right hemisphere) side of my brain.
Creativity is a skill we can cultivate and hone through
practice and shifting our mindset; thinking differently about things is the way to do that.
This type of exercise will help all our creative endeavors, including our photography.
So, as Steve Jobs advised, let's "Think different."
Imagine that you are an object exerting force on the object(ive) of learning photography.
And remember, learning photography involves camera operation, composition, and light.
A Review of Newton's Laws of Motion and How They Relate to the "Learning Photography Laws of Motion"
1. Newton's First Law of Motion (Inertia)
An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
How Inertia
Relates to the Learning Photography Laws of Motion
If we do nothing, our understanding of photography stays the same, and we keep making the same pictures in the same way unless we take action.
2. Newton's Second Law of Motion (Force)
The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied.
How Force Relates to the Learning
Photography Laws of Motion
The force of our intent and actions will overcome our inertia and move us toward learning photography.
3. Newton's Third Law of Motion (Action & Reaction)
Whenever one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first.
How Action
& Reaction Relates to the Learning Photography Laws of Motion
What we get out of photography is the same as what we put in. If we put in a lot of work and effort to learn photography, then we understand a lot about
photography; if we put in a little work and effort to learn photography, then we understand a little about photography.
Work, Effort, and Force
When we apply the effort to do the work, we create the force that gets us from one place to another in terms of our understanding of photography and bettering our skills.
Why We've Gotta Learn To Think Differently
When it
comes to our photography studies and practice, thinking differently about the things we photograph is the creativity we've gotta develop, along with understanding camera operation, composition, and light.
That's where I can help.

I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
Currently scheduled classes are below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
