If we're lucky enough to have a hobby, like photography, we have something to do
that'll fuel a passion and give us something to focus our attention on.
We might read about it, watch videos, and connect with others who share our interests, all in the effort and commitment to improve.
We're spending quality time when we're working on improving our hobby, and it feels good to do that.
When we study and practice persistently and consistently, our improvement builds momentum, and before we know it, we're now good at what we were once not too good at.
I'm biased, but photography is an excellent and worthwhile hobby because it causes us to slow down and see the roses, so to speak.
We begin to see things that we usually see as uninteresting and
see them in new and interesting ways.
And remember, mistakes and setbacks aren't tragic and should never be a source of our frustration or disappointment.
Instead, our mistakes and setbacks are opportunities for us to define where we need to strengthen our understanding of camera operation, composition, and light; they help us define the path that'll show us how to become better photographers.
We need to view our mistakes with a sincere and intentional interest in using them to make us better at our craft.
When we bring this mindset to our studies and practice, we'll steadily improve, and we will find that our photography hobby has made us better observers, logical and critical thinkers, and more effective communicators.
And remember, understanding camera operation, composition, and light will always remain the core of excellent photography.
