My job as a photographer is to keep my work process and compositions as simple as
possible.
My job as a photography teacher is to explain the complexities of photography so we can simplify photography.
Before I toss in my two cents about the topic, here's a few quotes from a few interesting minds about complexity and simplicity.
"Simplicity before understanding complexity is ignorance. Simplicity after understanding complexity is genius." - James Clear
"Simplicity does not precede complexity, but follows it." -Alan
Perlis
"Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains." - Steve Jobs
"The role of genius is not to complicate the simple, but to simplify the complicated." - Criss Jami
Photography doesn't seem simple if we're new to studying and practicing photography.
That's because we don't understand photography's
complexities.
Specifically, we've gotta understand the complexities of camera operation, composition, and light.
But when we're starting, we'll need to prioritize our studies and practice toward the complexities of camera operation and composition.
We need to understand focusing, metering, and exposure in terms of how to do these functions on our camera and how they affect our compositions.
There's no doubt that digital cameras are complex
light recording tools and that photography is a complex process.
However, we can simplify our photographic process once we understand the complexities.
