The other day, I heard a photographer say that film cameras are obsolete.
Well, they ain't.
It's silly to think that any camera is obsolete.
If it's a digital camera, it may not be up to date in terms of firmware/software upgrades, but if we can still use it to make pictures, it'll
do.
The thing that can be annoying is the camera ergonomics.
Especially in terms of menus, submenus, and dial placement and use.
That's why we should try a camera out before we buy it.
Check out how to change the exposure, focusing, and metering modes and how it feels to navigate the menus.
Make sure it offers aperture and shutter priority modes and, most importantly, fully manual exposure mode.
We've gotta
check out the displays to ensure they give us the information we need.
How's the viewfinder look?
Can we adjust its sharpness with a diopter?
Remember, we've gotta buy a camera that feels ergonomically comfortable
and simple to use.
If it's not, we're gonna be miserable using it.
On the other hand, if it feels good and has an easy feel to use, we'll enjoy picking it up and using it.
The question then becomes how are we gonna
use it?
Do you use it to make pictures for us and take what we get?
Or do we use it to make pictures that we want?
If we intend to use it to make the pictures we want, fully manual exposure mode is the way to go
because it gives us complete control of our compositions.
If we do that, camera ergonomics is an essential consideration.
