On a basic level, as photographers, we're not special.
But beyond the basics of being part of a segment of the population called photographers, we can make special pictures for ourselves and others.
But how do we do that?
We need to become better, greater photographers.
So, how do we become better, greater photographers?
Our greatness doesn't come from believing we're great; it comes from the opposite approach: our greatness arises from obsessing about how to be better photographers.
We can think about that
and then ask ourselves, "What do we want to be great at?"
What can we do today so that tomorrow we're better than today?
The specialness in our photography comes from uniquely expressing ourselves fully.
The only way
to do that is by getting involved in every aspect of composition.
We've gotta be involved in metering, focusing, controlling tonality, depth of field, blur, noise, and every other element of composition that we possibly can.
There's a lot involved in making a picture but we can pick something to concentrate our studies and practice on this week and study and practice that.
That's the way I structure the Introduction to Photography class.
Every week, we learn a primary lesson involving a technique that'll help us be better photographers.
And the previous lesson helps us build onto a current one.
When we build on and add to our photography techniques, we can express our unique creativity if we use those techniques to communicate how we think about what we see instead of just what we see.

Smaller classes mean better learning, so class
sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
