Remember, tactics are short-term, specific actions we use to achieve a goal.
On the other hand, strategy is our overarching long-term vision or plan that guides our tactics and keeps our mind on the big picture/whole situation and our overall direction to achieve our desired result; the detailed steps to execute the
strategy are our tactics.
We've got a strategy.
Maybe it's one we didn't even choose, but we've got one...but it ain't working.
Well, "Now, what do we do?"
It could be our tactics, which do we use?
How do we make better pictures?
How do we finally figure out what we're doing as photographers, understand photography, stop feeling intimidated by our cameras, and become better photographers?
Maybe we should mimic the tactics others have succeeded in using?
It's a simple problem, and there's a simple answer.
Our tactics ain't the problem.
Our problem is our strategy.
If
we mimic the tactics of someone whose strategy is useful, that won't help.
It won't help because they've got a better strategy, not better tactics.
And someone who got lucky?
Their tactics won't help,
either.
That's because sometimes people get lucky, and they're the ones that got the luck.
It wasn't their tactics that brought them luck.
Buying the same camera that a famous, successful
photographer uses won't make us better photographers.
If we're not careful, we can get stuck in tactics at the expense of our strategy.
When we've doubts, it's best to put effort into our strategy; the practical tactics will organically follow.
