Choosing the right camera is essential for photographers regardless of our
experience.
The camera that supports our studies and practice makes a huge difference in our photography, enabling us to record engaging photographs that express our intent of communication.
Here's some help to make a smart decision when figuring out what camera to get.
And don't forget, the camera on our phone is a camera too, and by using it, we can Learn to Think Like a Photographer.
Understanding The Work We Do: We've gotta realize what we want to do with our photography.
Are we interested in landscapes, portraits, wildlife, or something else?
Our interests will guide the features we need in a camera.
Budgeting: Camera prices are all over the place.
Don't break the bank; remember, a "better" camera doesn't make us better photographers.
We've gotta look for cameras within our budget, keeping in mind features we really need at a price we can afford.
Resolution and Sensor Size: Larger sensors usually give us better image quality, especially when working with low light intensity.
Also, the higher the resolution, the larger we can reproduce the image.
Compatibility With Lenses: The camera's compatibility with various lenses is essential.
Buying a camera with broad lens compatibility and focal lengths will add variety to
our compositions and save us money when purchasing from off-brand lens manufacturers.
Ease of Use: Ergonomics are a big deal.
We've gotta make sure the camera feels good in our hands and isn't awkward to use.
Beyond the stuff we'll often do, like changing exposure, ISO settings, and focusing, check out how the primary, sub-menus, and quick menus work.
Additional
Stuff: Image stabilization/vibration reduction, ways to focus (especially autofocus modes and areas), Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity options like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for convenient sharing and remote control.
Once we've got our
camera, we're not using it effectively and efficiently if we're struggling.
