Hello, .
I hope you’re enjoying the holidays and making plenty of pictures.
Our photography might feel like a calling, but it’s a choice.
When we create pictures, we make distinct choices regarding camera settings that impact each picture.
There are no right answers here, but before we make those choices, we need to consider whether they support our intent of composition.
With any
pictures we make, there’s a lot to consider.
Considering the light we’re working with, we’ve gotta consider how we operate our camera to get the best compositions.
Some of the things we need to think about are:
- What’s the Intent of composition?
- Are the framing and content sufficiently arranged?
- Is the tonality as bright or dark as we’d like?
- Are we focused on what we intend to be sharp?
- Is our shutter speed fast enough or
slow enough?
- Is our aperture sufficient for our desired depth of field?
- Did we meter precisely on what we wanted?
- After we’ve created the picture, what’s our self-critique?
Remember, we’ve got a lot to
consider, and the list above isn’t anywhere near comprehensive.
The best we can do is choose our camera settings thoughtfully to create our desired picture.
The best way to do that is by working in manual exposure mode.
