Hello, .
Our cameras do what all cameras do; they record light.
Furthermore, our cameras are of specific makes and models.
And when it comes to camera makes and models, especially digital cameras, how they record light varies.
Depending on the make and model of the camera, it may have more or fewer operating functions.
Regardless of the number of options we have regarding
camera functionality, most, if not all, cameras provide three universal functions.
- Exposure modes
- Focusing modes
- Metering modes
These camera functions are not just technical aspects, but also crucial elements of composition.
Understanding them is essential when working with our camera, as it allows us to be
actively involved in the composition of our photograph when the impulse to capture the light we see arises.
In other words, our ability to create the pictures we want hinges on our awareness and understanding of camera operation,
composition, and light.
Everything we do as photographers revolves around these three key elements: camera operation, composition, and light.
What really matters is that we understand those three things so we can use our camera effectively and confidently, be more involved in the light we're working with, and compose the best pictures possible.
This understanding makes us better photographers.
