Hello, .
If you don’t know me, here’s something you oughta know.
I’m not one of those people who doesn’t follow their guidance.
If you notice, at the end of the emails I send you, there’s a reminder to make pictures daily.
Even if they’re only in your mind because even thinking about photography is doing photography.
One of the things I often do is something I call "seeing in pictures."
Seeing in pictures is seeing something and visualizing it as a picture in our minds.
Visualizing a picture in our mind always happens before camera operation and exposure.
We can even imagine which lens, ISO, and exposure settings we'll use.
And, if we're using the camera on our phone, we can still practice visualization, except we may not have access to exposure settings, ISO, and other camera functionality available for more complex cameras like DSLRs or mirrorless cameras.
So, practicing visualizing what we see as a photograph, even if we don't make a picture, is an excellent way to study and practice our photography.
Visualizing comes naturally
to us.
We struggle with creating something that aligns with our visualization.
As photographers, we usually struggle with operating the camera, composing the image, and evaluating the light we are observing.
We struggle with our photography if we don't understand how the relationship between the characteristics of the light we see and our camera operation affects compositional outcomes.
We can either get the picture we
want or not.
Understanding how to get the picture we want is essential.
But just as important is that we can't get the picture we want based on our evaluation of the light we're working with, our skill as photographers, and our camera.
And when we understand we can't get the picture we want, we can do what we can to get the best image possible.
I hope you're studying and practicing your photography today.
I've got some classes scheduled.
The ways to study and practice photography with me are below.
Call me if you need help determining the best course of study and practice.
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
Currently scheduled classes are below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group
classes? Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
