Hello, .
Yesterday, I wrote to you about why what's covered during
the first meeting of any photography class is essential because it should lay the groundwork to build on for the rest of the class.
Whether a series of private lessons or the Introduction To Photography class, what's covered on that first day means a lot.
When the first class is done
right, the participants walk away feeling confident with operating their camera to control composition in the light they're in.
When we cover camera operation and how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO as a means to control tonality, we
begin discussing the additional visual effects associated with each.
Additionally, covering focusing modes, focusing areas, and metering modes/patterns as elements of composition involving camera operation and intent of communication
allows us to see how everything ties together to create compelling pictures.
A whole bunch of camera functionality opens up as soon as we get out of fully automatic exposure mode and begin using either aperture priority, shutter priority,
or manual exposure mode.
And the more camera functionality we can use, the better for our photography studies and practice.
We become more skilled photographers, and our compositions are more controllable.
But, although I'm a big fan of manual exposure mode, there are other ways to get more involved in your photography.
Aperture and shutter priority modes are excellent exposure modes to get more camera functionality and
expand your studies and practice in a way that gets you much more involved in creating pictures than fully automatic exposure mode ever can.
That's where the Getting To Know Your Camera class fits the bill.
Ansel Adams said best, "You don't take a photograph, you make it."
I hope you're making pictures and you like them.
A lot.
I've got some classes scheduled.
The ways to study and practice photography with me are below.
Call me if you need help determining the best course of study and practice.
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with
me.
Currently scheduled classes are below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up
soon.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
Sam
