Hello, .
Today, I wanna mention the importance of resilience, persistence, and patience in becoming better photographers and how those qualities can help us pick up where we left off.
We can think of resilience as our ability to withstand/recover quickly from perceived difficulties or failures; persistence is steadfastly continuing our efforts and patience is our ability to accept and tolerate perceived annoyances and problems.
It sucks trying to pick up where we left off we might feel like we gave up and feel discouraged.
But if we really want to get better at something, we've gotta pick up where we left off.
Picking up where we left off differs from starting over from the beginning.
When we pick up from where we left off, we're better at whatever we're trying to get better at than when we first started. But we'll probably be rusty.
Those of you who have been getting emails from me for a while know that I used to write something to offer guidance and encouragement to study and practice your photography daily.
And to do that, I wrote to you
daily.
Well, sometimes life requires us to bring attention to other matters, and those matters may require us to lessen or stop our studies and practice.
And that lessening or stopping can be discouraging.
But despite my disappointment and discouragement in myself, I'm picking up where I left off in my daily writing to you.
If we ever meet, if you're interested, I'll fill you in on my story of discouragement as a
photographer and how resilience, persistence, and patience were vital to becoming the best professional photographer/photography teacher I could be.
My story aside, if it weren't for resilience, persistence, and patience, we
wouldn't see the likes of Michael Jordan.
We also wouldn't be able to enter the wonderful world of Harry Potter if J.K. Rowling had given up after the numerous rejections she received before becoming a recognized writer.
And we'd be sittin' in the dark if it weren't for the thousands of experiments Thomas Edison conducted before hitting pay-dirt with his invention of the light bulb.
Each of those folks had resilience, persistence, and patience.
Yeah, we need a camera to create our pictures, but in order to become the best photographers we can be, we need to carry more than our camera; we need the essential qualities of resilience, persistence, and patience.
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
Currently scheduled classes are below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker, so sign up soon.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
