We've got a couple of ways to study and practice our photography.

We can do it easily, or we can do it simply.

If we operate our cameras easily, we make things complicated. For example, we can easily make a picture in fully automatic exposure mode by pressing the shutter release. Still, the technology that's needed to make that picture is complicated.

On the other hand, If we operate our cameras simply, we've gotta make some effort. For example, we can simply and intentionally make a picture in manual exposure mode. Still, we require an understanding of light, camera operation, and composition. And getting that understanding and operating the camera intentionally takes effort.

When we go the easy way, the camera's technology takes the picture. In other words, we have no control over the image beyond the content we put in the frame. In this case, we have no choice but to take what the camera gives us. We're often working without an understanding of what we're doing.

When we go the simple way, we make the picture. In other words, we have complete control over the outcome of the picture. In this case, we intentionally operate our camera to make our best compositions. We're always working with an understanding of light, camera operation, and composition, and we know what we're doing.

By keeping our photography studies and practice simple, we can make the photographs we want instead of working easily and taking the pictures we get.

There's only one spot left in the Introduction To Photography class that starts on Sunday, April 14. 

The Introduction To Photography class will get you more involved in photography by learning how to work your camera in manual exposure mode. You'll get a good foundation in the basics of photography while learning reliable creative techniques. Classes are scheduled to start April 14. 

Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker. 

Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option. 

And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
