Hello, .
Using a complex camera like a DSLR or mirrorless camera allows
for more depth of composition and expression than the cameras on our phones.
However, studying and practicing photography changes us regardless of our camera.
Here's how.
What if we approach studying and
practicing (learning) photography thoughtfully and intentionally?
Then, we begin slowing down and seeing our world differently.
We see things we usually overlook.
This happens quickly and more
frequently as we continue our studies and practice.
We walk into our usual places but begin to see them more deeply.
We see the usual people but see them differently.
We see the whole but begin to notice the details
that make up the whole.
Photography raises our visual awareness and awareness of our thoughts and feelings about what we see.
Everything we see has the potential to be an interesting photograph.
As we become
familiar and comfortable with light, camera operation, and composition, and with thoughtful technique application, we begin to communicate effectively through our pictures.
We use our cameras as a means of visual communication and
expression, using the functions of our cameras to create photographs that communicate and express facts, opinions, or feelings.
We intentionally use our cameras and other equipment, using techniques involving aperture, shutter speed, ISO
focusing, metering, exposure, tonality, etc., as elements of composition.
We know photography when we understand light, camera operation, and composition.
And by knowing photography, we're the communicative and expressive photographers and humans we want to be.
There's only two spots left in the Introduction To Photography class that starts on Sunday, April 14.
The Introduction To Photography class will get you more involved in photography by learning how to work your camera in manual exposure mode. You'll get a good foundation in the basics of photography while learning reliable creative techniques.
Classes are scheduled to start April 14.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.
But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker.
Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option.
