I'm full of the shoot; you're full of the shoot; all photographers are full of the shoot.

Some of us are morning shooters, some of us are nighttime shooters, and some of us shoot whenever the urge strikes us.

We shoot at different times, we shoot in various places, and we shoot different things.

In general, when we're new to photography, we shoot a lot, and there are two reasons we shoot a lot.

One reason is we need to understand more about camera operation, light, and composition. Since we don't understand photography, we take many pictures and keep the best that the camera gives us. 

Usually, photographers who fall into this group shoot in automatic exposure mode and are happy working this way; others want more control over the outcome of their pictures.

Another reason we shoot a lot is because we're learning photography.

In this case, we make a lot of pictures, but they're thoughtful and deliberate and part of our structured studies and practice. 

When we begin making pictures this way, we become more decisive in our compositions, and since we know what we're doing, we get our pictures looking the way we want them to be.

We get our pictures looking how we want because when we understand what we're doing, we shoot less due to our firm grasp of camera operation, light, and composition interplay.

Furthermore, when we have a firm grasp of the interplay of camera operation, light, and composition, we can pick up any camera and confidently create the best pictures possible, given the circumstances. 

At this point, we've become adaptable and agile photographers who can shoot anytime, anywhere, and anything with any camera. And because we can do that, we can shoot as much or as little as we want, and we'll get the pictures we intended. 

The next series of the Introduction to Photography class starts in February.

And there are other scheduled group classes below. 

Smaller classes mean better learning, so no more than five participants and me are in each class. 

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker. 

And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
