Hello ,
If we want to get better at anything, studying and practicing is the way to go because that's the only way to get better at anything.
One's not more important than
the other, but without practicing what we study, we might know some things, but practice helps us do what we practice better.
When we study and practice photography, we study camera operation, light, and composition.
And camera operation allows us to record the light we observe and study.
Today, during the first meeting of the Introduction to Photography class, we put into practice what we studied.
We mainly studied
camera operation and learned about critiquing, exposure modes, focusing modes, focusing areas, stops as an increment of changes, reviewing our pictures and the associated metadata, and controlling tonality in manual exposure mode using aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
Five people, all wanting to be better photographers, put into practice what they studied and got better at camera operation by doing what they studied.
And by getting better at camera
operation, they became better photographers.
The assigned homework will continue their studies and practice, and as long as they do the homework, they'll continue to improve.
When we meet next, we'll build on what was learned through studying and practicing and add more things to study and practice.
This is the only way to get better at what we do.
And remember, practice never makes perfect, but it does make us better
photographers.
The next series of the Introduction to Photography
class starts in February.
And there are other scheduled group classes below.
Smaller classes mean better learning, so no more than five participants and me are in each class.
But smaller
classes also mean spots fill up quicker.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
Sam
