Dr. Donald MacKinnon, look him up, sees true creativity fulfilling at least three conditions.

First, creativity involves a novel response or one that's infrequent statistically.

In a word, I'm taking that as meaning  "unique."

Second, the creative process must adapt to or base itself on reality. 

It has to solve a problem, suit a situation, or depend on reality's cause-and-effect process.

What we do as photographers is precisely that. 

We observe and record the light we see by operating a camera to create a picture to communicate something intentionally through our picture. 

I don't know what cause and effect is if that ain't cause and effect.

Third, true creativity involves evaluating and expanding, enlarging, or refining our original understanding of something while fully sustaining and developing that refined understanding.

That describes not just creating a picture of what we see but instead creating a picture of how we think about what we see and how to use our camera effectively.

So, based on Dr. Donald MacKinnon's definition of something genuinely creative, photography fits the bill.

In other words, we're true creatives because when the light we observe compels us to intentionally communicate facts, opinions, concepts, and feelings by making a picture, we solve a communication problem.

And since our skill levels vary, so does our skillfulness in applying techniques to solve the problems of creating photographs.

Skillfulness is essential because our skillful use of technique serves our creativity.

My classes'll help develop your creative skills. 

Introduction To Photography classes are scheduled to start on March 25, March 27 and April 14. Class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.

Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option. 

While all my classes will involve you more in how we make pictures, the Introduction To Photography class is the most comprehensive when it comes to getting a good foundation in the basics of photography. If you want to learn to work your camera in a way that'll provide the most creative technique available, the Introduction To Photography group class is the thing to do..

Smaller classes mean better learning, so no more than five participants and me are in each class. 

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker. 

And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
