Sometimes, I don't know what to do, so I start doing it.

For example, I enjoy writing about photography daily and sending you these emails.

But to write about photography, I gotta think about photography.

That's easy to do when I meet with photographers studying and practicing with me, but yesterday wasn't one of those days.

Here's an edited version of what I recorded while seeing- in-pictures and speaking out loud.

"I'm seeing a lot of stuff.  

Specifically, it's reflective light illuminated by the sun, an undifused transmitting light source.

There's boats on the water; some boats move faster than others.

My go-to setting for these moving reflective light sources is shutter speed because I may want to record these boats as blurred or not blurred (static).

I also see somebody sitting to my left, around ten feet away.

Except for occasionally turning the pages of a book, this reflected light source is barely moving; this is an interesting and complex visual study.

I imagine using a shutter speed that's fast enough to hand-hold a camera with a specific focal length lens but slow enough to blur a hand and page moving.Then, I imagine an aperture wide enough to achieve a shallow depth of field."

This seeing-in-pictures stuff is an excellent exercise.

It gets us unblocked from our photographer's block.

And yup, photographer's block is our version of what writers go through.

This is what I mean when I say we can practice photography without our cameras. 

Introduction To Photography classes are scheduled to start on March 25, March 27 and April 14. Class sizes are limited to 5 participants plus me.

Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option. 

While all my classes will involve you more in how we make pictures, the Introduction To Photography class is the most comprehensive when it comes to getting a good foundation in the basics of photography. If you want to learn to work your camera in a way that'll provide the most creative technique available, the Introduction To Photography group class is the thing to do..

Smaller classes mean better learning, so no more than five participants and me are in each class. 

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker. 

And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
