This coming Sunday's group class lineup perfectly explains what I mean when I say we can use whatever camera we have to learn photography.

I've got two group classes scheduled for this coming Sunday, March 10.

Participants in the Introduction To Photography class will use complex cameras, such as DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, to operate fully in manual exposure mode. There's a lotta stuff covered during the four-meeting-once-a-week course. 

Participants in the Learn To Think Like A Photographer class will use simple cameras. Specifically, they'll use the cameras on their phones to learn photography. 

There'll be two classes and two different types of cameras regarding complexity, but everyone participating will learn photography.

Of course, with the more complex cameras, we've got more to learn when explicitly operating these types of cameras—camera operation, including focus, metering, controlling tonality, and all the other elements of composition. 

It's not that we don't do that with simple cameras; we've just got fewer options.

Regardless of the cameras, the compositional thought process is the same. 

Yup, same thought process, different cameras.

As I said, we can use whatever camera we want, but we have to understand what we're doing with the camera because it's not the camera as much as the photographer using it. 

And as long as the photographer using whatever camera they've got knows what they're doing with the camera they're using, their pictures will be intentionally, thoughtfully, and uniquely composed.

An Introduction To Photography class starts this Sunday, March 10.

Private in-person or online lessons suited to your schedule are always an option. 

While all my classes will involve you more in how we make pictures, the Introduction To Photography class is the most comprehensive when it comes to getting a good foundation in the basics of photography. If you want to learn to work your camera in a way that'll provide the most creative technique available, the Introduction To Photography group class is the thing to do..

Classes start soon.

Smaller classes mean better learning, so no more than five participants and me are in each class. 

But smaller classes also mean spots fill up quicker. 

And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture daily.
