Hello ,
If you read yesterday's email, you should have caught my mistake.
But if you didn't, here's the sentence the mistake is in.
"Eventually, I realized that the idea of resoi8lutiins is to change habits."
Obviously, I need to get into the habit of slowing down and doing better proofreading before I press the send button.
But that's
what happens when we rush.
We overlook stuff.
We cut corners.
And when we rush, overlook stuff, and cut corners, the quality of our work could be better.
We have two choices.
- We put in the time and effort to produce the best work possible.
- We don't put in the time and effort to produce the best work possible.
My mistake was the result of choice two.
But there's an upside to our mistakes.
We make them, and we can learn from them.
We make a
lot of mistakes when learning photography.
And even if we're seasoned photographers, our work is better if we take our time so we don't overlook stuff and cut corners.
In other words, we always want to make the best pictures possible.
When it comes to camera operation, if we're working in fully automatic exposure mode, we cut so many corners that we wind up with a circle.
And we get stuck in that circle because we allow
the camera, a machine, to do the work of a thoughtful, intentional, expressive human.
Do yourself a favor if you're working in fully automatic exposure mode.
Get out your camera's owner's manual and start working your camera in aperture and shutter priority.
If you're feeling ambitious, give fully manual exposure mode a go.
You'll make mistakes, but if you want to be a better photographer, the biggest mistake is to keep
working in fully automatic exposure mode.
There's an Introduction To
Photography starting this Friday and more starting soon after that.
When you need help with your studies and practice, you know where to find me.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture today.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
Sam
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of
my scheduled group classes? If that's the case, let's schedule a one-time lesson or a series of in-person or online private instruction that covers the same things as my group
classes.
Ways to work with me are listed below.
