Hello ,
The secret to great photography is that there's no secrets to great photography.
There's also no tricks, shortcuts, or
hacks.
There's only photographers who understand camera operation, composition, and light, and while using whatever camera they have, they make the best pictures they can.
And if we're not one of those photographers who understand camera operation, composition, and light, how do we become one?
The answer to that question reminds me of a joke.
An eager young violinist who wants to audition for a spot in the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera arrives in New York City and, exiting Penn Station, spots an elderly musician walking briskly north on Seventh Avenue.
The young violinist
catches up with the older musician and, while walking with him, asks, "Excuse me, sir, but how do I get to Carnegie Hall?"
And without breaking stride, the old musician answers, "Practice"!
That's the secret, which ain't a secret.
Practice!
Our studies and practice are the way to become one of those photographers who understand camera operation, composition, and light and make the best pictures possible with whatever camera they have.
And if you need some help with your studies and practice, I've got a couple of classes for ya.
The Getting To Know Your Camera class will get you working in aperture and shutter priority modes.
The Introduction To Photography class will
get you working in manual exposure mode. And classes start tomorrow and Sunday. Classes are kept small (no more than 5 participants) to ensure participants get all they can out of the meetings. Register now to hold your spot.
And remember, we learn
and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture today.
That's all for now; thanks for reading!
Sam
I'll help you be a better photographer—study and practice photography with me.
And what if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes? If that's the case, let's schedule a one-time lesson or a series of in-person or online private instruction that covers the same things as my
group classes.
Ways to work with me are listed below.
