Hello ,
That "...so practice making at least one picture today..." part of my signoff at the end of these emails is a reminder.
It reminds you and me
that if we wanna be better photographers, we've gotta make pictures and then critique 'em.
But it ain't about how many pictures we make; it's about how involved we get in camera operation, composition, and light when making them.
And it shouldn't feel like a chore. It should feel like something we want to do and enjoy doing.
But it can also feel frustrating.
Especially when critiquing our pictures and, more often than not, the opinion of our critique is our photographs aren't coming out how we want.
And the frustrating part is we don't understand why.
But despite our frustration and misunderstanding, we keep trying.
Here's the upside: The great thing about mistakes is that they show us what we need to learn and give us direction in our studies and practice.
And if there's ever a quality that'll serve us in our studies and practice, it's
persistence.
Another good one is regularity.
We'll become better photographers if we're persistent and regular in our studies and practice.
That's why I close my emails with "...so practice making at least one picture today"; it's a reminder to be
persistent and regular in our studies and practice.
And it's in our studies and practice that we'll understand why those pictures that didn't come out the way we wanted came out the way they did.
And when we understand that, we understand photography.
You know where to
find me if you need help with your studies and practice.
And remember, we learn and improve by doing, so practice making at least one picture today.
That’s all for now; thanks for reading!
Sam

And, if the timing doesn't work for you in my scheduled group classes? Then, we can schedule a one-time lesson or a series of in-person or online private instruction that covers the same things as the group classes.
