Hello ,
Can We Be Better Photographers?
Foundationally, that's a good question.
However, it's not a question that digs deep enough.
In addition, we have to ask a
series of follow-up questions to improve our work.
Are We Willing To Do Anything About Being Better
Photographers?
Most importantly, how we answer the above question, our work improves or stays the same.
Of course, our work remains the same if we're unwilling to do anything.
And, If we're willing to do something, we have to ask ourselves...
How Do
We Think We Need To Improve?
Because self-critiques are the best critiques, this is a question we can only answer for ourselves; it will require a
factual, critical analysis based on the intent of communication and elements of the composition of what we mean by "better."
Since answering this question is a critique of our work, we should NOT look to
others to critique our work because, once again, the most valuable opinions of our work are self-critiques.
Why Do We Want To
Improve?
Furthermore, I think by answering why we get clarity on purpose.
And if we clarify the purpose, we create a strong desire to keep working to improve or work.
Additionally, the "why" can show us the direction and priority of practice/effort.
What Efforts Are Needed To Improve?
Without a doubt, this is where the rubber meets the road.
Because, without skillful and appropriate effort, nothing happens.
And, of course, our actions depend on how we answer the previous questions.
Sometimes we need to improve regarding camera/equipment/technology operation.
And other times, we may need a better understanding of photography.
However, most of the time, we can improve both of these skills.
