Hello ,
Why two emails today? It's because I missed sending one out yesterday. Starting tomorrow it'll be one a day, until I miss
another day and then we gotta go through this again.
Here's a bit about niches.
The other day a photographer I worked with asked if they needed to find a niche.
The answer is no.
And here's the why to the no.
The most important thing is to learn to identify and express our visual voice.
It's there. It's unique to us as individuals, but we've got a rough time expressing it through our camera.
It's not that we can't express
it through our camera.
It's that we don't understand how.
The how we need to learn is camera operation. And having the full version of our owners manuals handy ain't a bad idea.
But like I always say, we don't need to learn everything.
Suppose we learn and understand how to control three things, exposure/tonality, focusing, and metering.
In that case, we've got a solid foundation to do everything we need to get the best pictures we can under various lighting conditions.
And if we have that foundation, it's not about
finding a niche.
It's about being so skilled in what we do as craftspeople that we can apply our craft to anything we want.
And if we can do that, we don't have to restrict ourselves to a niche.
Instead, we can do whatever work we want.
I usually tell people that before we can be event photographers, portrait photographers, landscape photographers, or whatever type of photographer, we gotta be proficient photographers first.
And remember, we learn and become better by doing, so make sure to practice by making at least one picture today.
That’s all for now; thanks for reading!

Study and practice photography with me.
And if the timing doesn't work for you in any of my scheduled group classes, we can schedule a one-time lesson or a series of in-person or online
one-on-one private instruction that cover the same things as any of my group classes.
