If we think about it, as photographers, we see something and respond by using our camera to make a photograph.
But when it comes to camera operation and composition, what's our response-ability?
What I'm questioning is what we're able to do when we
respond.
And that depends on our camera and our ability
to use it intentionally to create thoughtful compositions.
We can practice compositional basics with any camera.
Specifically, we can practice framing, focusing, changing tonality, and on some camera phones, adjusting white balance.
And if we download a photography app, like Halide" onto the phone, the app's interface tends to allow us to be more involved in camera operation and composition.
And while we can practice those things on all cameras, how we do those things on those cameras varies.
There's a good size complexity gap when it comes to the range of cameras we use.
If we start talkin' about mirrorless and DSLR cameras, the complexity of
operation increases a lot.
To be clear, I don't
mean difficult when I say complex.
There're more moving parts, more options, and more stuff to do.
It doesn't matter what camera we use.
All that matters is we use it intentionally to create the best pictures possible.
If we can do that, we'll know we're doing the best we can with whatever we've got and making the best photographs we can.
In other words, we're happy with our work and as a result, we have the ability to be happy with our work photographers.
